Project Grandiosity

Welcome to my blog: Project Grandiosity--a name that I've just spent more time typing than I spent coming up with it. I hope it's a good choice. My name is Michael North and I have been a gamer since the day I started playing the free copy of Chex Quest we got in our cereal box one day. Since that day I've enjoyed many games but I've also fantasised about the ideal role playing game. I've thought about it so much that I decided to make a blog outlining the ideas I've had. The basic idea behind this game is to do absolutely everything that I've ever wanted to do in an RPG.

I have so many ideas that I've decided to break them up into separate posts. This is a rough outline of what I've thought of up to this point.

A realistic player character
  no hitpoints
  better stamina system
  permadeath
the only hero--an epic quest only happens once, even on multiplayer
  no skill levels (idea WIP)

Realistic magic
  magic is hard

A fascinating world
  better ways to travel
  hidden history
  cooler enemies
  more decisions
  dynamic environment/quests/enemies

These are my current ideas summarized. I could write a paragraph or more on almost every one of those points but I'm going to save that for future posts. I am going to start writing posts based on this outline and I will probably update it as I think of new things. The reality of this project is that the scope is so huge, so ridiculously grandiose, that I could probably never have it made. Rather than being discouraged by that I've decided to embrace it. If this game will never be made then I have no limitation on what can be in it. I can add every detail that should be there and then I can refine it as I please. And who knows, now that this is on a public blog maybe someone with the means to make a game like this will stumble across it and ask to work with me.

That's all for now. I'll try to post everything I've written up to this point in organized posts and hopefully edit them to be comprehensible to more people than just myself.

If you are interested in a specific idea then tell me so I can prioritize it as a future post.
